Hydrogen Can Alleviate the Toxicity of Methamphetamine

The Department of Forensic Medicine of Heibei Medical University has its own characteristics in the research of hydrogen for drug abstinence. It has reported the research of hydrogen on morphine withdrawal effect. Recently, Wen D et al. of the research group reported again on the therapeutic effect of hydrogen on sensitization of methamphetamine activities in Program Neurosurgery Biol Psychotherapy. The research group has already cooperated with drug addiction treatment centers to apply hydrogen to human drug abstinence. The preliminary results show that hydrogen has certain effect on relieving withdrawal symptoms of drug addicts. It is really surprising that hydrogen can help drug abstinence. Although drugs and drug addicts are repugnant, it is also a good thing to help drug addicts get rid of drug addiction or to help them reduce the pain in the progress of drug abstinence.


Most of heavy smokers have such experience that it is difficult for them to give up smoking. I gave up smoking 3 years ago by accident, which was very successful. I did not deliberately give up smoking, but I don’t smoke anymore. Previously, I had smoked a pack of cigarettes a day for 15 years. I know that people who use hydrogen have successfully quit smoking, but I don’t know whether hydrogen can help them quit it. Everyone can try on that using hydrogen relieves the discomfort of quitting smoking. Perhaps, you will receive the unexpected results.


Methamphetamine, also known as ice, is one of the most commonly used illegal psychostimulants. Continuous use of methamphetamine can cause behavioral sensitization of animals (characteristics of ecstasy), and can stimulate similar human behaviors. The biomedical effect of hydrogen has gradually been paid attention to and has ideal therapeutic effect on various diseases and injuries. Although the disease treatment mechanism of hydrogen is still not completely clear, whether hydrogen can sensitize behavior caused by methamphetamine is worth studying.


In this study, we first observed that hydrogen can alleviate the behavioral sensitization induced by methamphetamine, and analyzed ERK phosphorylation and ΔFosB activation in brain accumbens cells. Seven days after intraperitoneal injection of different concentrations of methamphetamine, C57BL/6 mice found that the higher the concentration, the more obvious the increase in animal activity. The use of hydrogen water has a certain inhibitory effect on activity sensitization. Interestingly, hydrogen-water therapy can also reverse this change with the increase of ΔFosB in the nucleus accumbens of the brain of the activity sensitized animals. Hydrogen also has antagonistic effect on the increase of active oxygen and malondialdehyde induced by methamphetamine. These results indicate that hydrogen has potential therapeutic effect on methamphetamine addiction through antioxidant effect.


My understanding is that shaking head of ecstasy is activity sensitization, and hydrogen can reduce activity sensitization, which means relieving this shaking head effect.
