Congratulations on the successful opening of "Healthy Drinking Water Quality" group standard review meeting in Beijing   

The conference was organized by Water and Health Committee of China Productivity Society and School of Environment of Tsinghua University. The standard was jointly drawn up by the experts and scholars of Tsinghua Suzhou Institute Of Environmental Innovation, Environmental Science And Engineering College Of Tongji University, Harbin Industrial University Institute Of Environment, Chinese Center For Disease Control And Prevention Nutrition And Health Research Institute, Chinese Center For Disease Control And Prevention Water Quality Safety Monitoring Room, Tianjin University, Wuhan University And Other Units.


Leaders and experts attending this standard review meeting: recipients of special allowance from the State Council; academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences; Zhao Xinli, researcher of the State Ministry of Science and Technology ; Ding Gangqiang, director of the Institute of Nutrition and Health of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; Li Aixian, vice president and chief engineer of the China Institute of Standardization; Luo Mai, director of the health department of the National Health Commission; Zhang Lan, researcher and director of the Water Quality Safety Monitoring Department of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; Liu Weiquan, deputy director of Water and Health Committee of China Productivity Society and so forth.


 


At the same time, experts and representatives of enterprise from Qingdao Beverage Group, JinMaiLang- LiangBaiKai, Watsons, Bishuiyuan, 3M, Perfect, Yisheng, Shuisheng and other related standards and fields attended the meeting, expressed their opinions and unanimously passed the standard certification. Chairman Xu Daohua of OSPRING TECHNOLOGY attended the meeting and delivered a speech.


The meeting was chaired by Yu Jinhong, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Productivity Society and secretary-general of the Water and Health Committee of the Chinese Productivity Society; Professor Sun Wenjun from the School of Environment of Tsinghua University introduced the revision and improvement of standards to the participants and briefly explained the concept of healthy drinking water and water quality standards.


The concept of healthy drinking water is the drinking and domestic water should be taken from the end of the water supply network, packaged drinking water, general water quality processor, etc., further treated to remove harmful substances to human body and retain the original and balanced nutrition and health essential trace mineral elements in the water on the basis of meeting the requirements of GB 5749-2006, i.e., standards for drinking water quality


The standard specifies the limit and target values of trace element, toxicological indicators, microbial limit indicator and testing methods for water quality of healthy drinking water, which is suitable for all kinds of centralized urban and rural drinking water supply, dispersed drinking water supply and packaged drinking water.


Healthy drinking water shall meet the requirements of GB 5749-2006 "Standards for Drinking Water Quality" to ensure the safety of drinking water for users.

Drinking water should be in line with the requirements of total dissolved solids, at least 6 indicators of 12 water quality indicators to maintain the type and balance of mineral ions in the water and toxicological & microbial limit indexes to ensure the safety of drinking water.


The meeting realigned and supplemented the instructions and reference explanations based on a number of domestic and foreign standards for healthy water and defined the healthy drinking water from the development of drinking water quality in terms of hygiene, safety, and health.



Wang Hao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary director of Department of Water Resources, indicated that the establishment of this standard is quite important and is for everyone, which can increase the happiness of the people and enhance civilized quality, and emphasized that the next step of basic research on healthy water should be continued, i.e., follow-up experiment for more than 10 years and 20 years using big data inspection to conduct controlled experiments on the reduction of chronic diseases and health to put the standard of healthy water into practice and life.



Ding Gangqiang, director of the Institute of Nutrition and Health of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that  nowadays people consume less vegetables and dietary fiber with better living conditions, while supplementing dietary nutrition and nutrients in water via drinking water is feasible to solve this contradiction, and the target value of water nutrients in this standard will make a certain contribution to Healthy China 2030 under normalized prevention and control of the epidemic.


 

Xu Daohua, chairman of Ospring Technology made a statement:


Ospring Technology Co., Ltd. has spent 22 years on water researches, and we have led the formulation of the "Micro-electrolyzed Water Appliances" industry association standard (CAS 211-2014) with in-depth research on the relationship between potential difference of water and health.


Chairman Xu mentioned the company's long-term research into the biological effects of three kinds of drinking water(pure water, tap water and filtered water) on hypertensive mice and its result of control experiments showed that the mice drinking pure water for a long time did not improve the symptoms of hypertension, while the mice drinking healthy water significantly reduced their blood pressure.


Healthy water has anti-oxidant function. It is beneficial to wipe off active oxygen free radicals and oxidative stress products in the body. The activity of antioxidant enzymes in mice drinking healthy water is enhanced, which reduces the production of inflammatory factors to lower blood pressure.


Meanwhile, we are looking forward to conducting Industry-University-Research with experts and scholars on the spot, taking in-depth studies on the control of cancer by hydrogen and the antioxidant function of trace element zinc in function water, as well as the upcoming project to be declared: the introduction of cancer strains into mice to study the biological research of anti-oxidation and anti-cancer in mice.

We also found that water property of anti-cancer and antioxidation may be related to its potential value. Water with high potential value can be used in  sterilization and in 2020, Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital used the high-potential-value disinfecting water we provided; low-potential-value owns high activity and the antioxidant capacity.


Director Xu suggested that it could be considered whether the index of negative potential Na or other related indexes should be put into the standard or its subsequent revision.


At the same time, director Xu also mentioned several contradictions in the standard: 


  1. First, in some areas like Fuzhou, the TDS value and the target value of the hardness of the minerals in the water is difficult to reach the minimum level of the relevant indicators even by increasing minerals. Once the standard is implemented, Fuzhou's healthy water will be unqualified, therefore, I suggested that the standard of healthy water quality should be graded and different levels can achieve different health effects.

  3. Second, virus indicators mentioned in the standard are also not recommended to be included in the standard because it is hard to obtain virus strains and make relevant tests for enterprises, so careful consideration is needed.


  4. Third, the pH value in the standard is between 6.5-8.5, so it is recommended to set up gradient grades according to local water quality. At once, attention should be paid to the relationship between anti-oxidation of hydrogen ions in water and health. 




The group standard reflects the innovative experience of the healthy drinking water industry, and the leaders and experts of this meeting fully support and affirm the identification of this standard.



Leaders, experts and enterprise representatives at the meeting gave their own opinions and suggestions on the sustainable development of the standard, so as to promote the integrity of the standard and make it more practical, normative, authoritative, operable and universal.


 

                                 


The identification of "Healthy Drinking Water Quality" group standard plays a great role to regulate the market of healthy drinking water product, help protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, further improve the awareness of healthy water drinking , laid a foundation to promote the development of healthy drinking water industry and push the industry to move towards the road of high-quality development.


The meeting was opened successful. Leaders, experts and enterprise representatives attended the meeting had an in-depth discussion on the next promulgation, organization and implementation of the standard, and decided to hold a press conference on "Healthy Drinking Water Quality" group standard in Qingdao on May 18, 2021, and the standard will be formally implemented on June 1, 2021.
